Oh yes, Thanksgiving was a wonderful day. I took pictures but none of them turned out well. Claudia’s turned out great, so hop over to her blog and check them out!
I bought all the food (thanks to Heather for braving the grocery store with me) but didn’t do much of the cooking. Everyone was offering to help so I delegated everything! I’m pretty sure it only worked out that way because I’m preggo, so next year will be totally different. For one thing, I’ll have a baby in tow so I’ll probably ask everyone to bring the food. I’ve already passed off the honor of roasting the turkey to Grandma & Grandpa Richmond.
Thanksgiving is becoming my favorite holiday. I love being able to open my home up to family and friends. It’s one of the few holidays that’s simply about spending time with those you love and being thankful for what you have. Every year we have a different mix of people but I think that’s what makes it so special. I will always remember the year that Dan & Heather came with Josiah still in utero. She was nine months+ pregnant so they couldn’t travel to be with either of their families, so they joined us instead! I remember Heather was hesitant at my invitation at first because they weren’t family, but I insisted because our friends are like family to us. The label is just a technicality.
This year Mike’s aunt and uncle and their son were able to join us. Uncle Paul usually has to work on Thanksgiving but this year he got lucky! We don’t see them very often and I’m so glad they were able to join us. Aunt Kathy brought the most delicious homemade apple pie (you’ll see it in Claudia’s picture collage of the food). She baked it that morning so it would still be warm. Now that is a woman to be admired, one who has a proper appreciation for fresh baked apple pie.
All in all, it was another successful Thanksgiving and I look forward to next year!
